The Mysterious Death of Marilyn Monroe
I just finished watching a special on the filming of “Some Like it Hot”, with Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon.
I have always thought Marilyn was incredible, exceptionally beautiful, and very talented.
She had a vulnerability and inner sadness that was so very obvious in her eyes.
Much has been written about her, some truths and many, many lies.
Yes she was unstable at times, she suffered from depression and took pills to blot out her pain….but all she really wanted was someone who loved her unconditionally, someone whom she could really trust.
In the end there was no one.
I believe the FBI documents released in 2008 in which it is supposed that Peter Lawford with the help of Dr. Ralph Greenson, Pat Newcomb and Marilyn’s housekeeper Eunice Murray, at Robert Kennedy’s request, organised Marylin to fake a suicide attempt because she had been fired from Fox studios, as simply more obfuscation of the facts.
Firstly, Marilyn had already negotiated a new contract with Fox and “Something’s Got to Give” was scheduled to recommence filming in October of 1962.
To say that Marilyn would even agree to such a stunt, is lame to say the least.
Tapes made by Dr. Greenson of Marilyn’s sessions with him have already been published and according to those, she was glad that her relationship with the Kennedy’s was finally over and in fact it was she who had terminated the relationships, not the other way around.
But the Kennedy’s would still have been in a panic about the supposed diary, Bobby’s presence at the house, the wiretappers, phone records etc….
I believe FBI or CIA agents called at Marilyn’s home late in the evening of August 4th.
Pat Newcomb was at the house, as was Mrs. Murray.
For privacy, I think the agent/s convinced Marilyn to speak with them in the guest room.
I believe she was offered a drink laced with Chloral Hydrate, which knocked her out.
Then she was given an enema of barbiturates. The agents left.
Either Mrs. Murray or Pat Newcomb wondered where Marilyn was, found her comatose in the guest room and her doctors were called, an ambulance was also called…(neighbours in the St. Helena Drive which a small cul-de-sac reportedly witnessed the ambulance at Marilyn’s house around midnight)…but Marilyn died on the way to the hospital.
The witnesses stated that the doctors didn’t arrive till around 4.30am….yet Marilyn died before midnight and including the hospital trip and an attempt to revive her, it is obvious there were a lot of people at Marilyn’s all during the night.
Now they all needed to figure out what to do. Bobby Kennedy, still in the LA area, was immediately whisked away to San Francisco by helicopter…(verified) and it is decided that Marilyn should be taken back to her home, placed in her bed and everyone agrees that she must have committed suicide.
The reason the FBI documents are sketchy and unlikely, is because the little forensic evidence that didn’t get destroyed clearly pointed to the drugs getting into Marilyn’s system through the colon and not the stomach.
Also Eunice Murray was busy washing sheets when the police arrived around 5 am (from the expulsion of the enema).
I mean one can imagine the panic Bobby Kennedy must have experienced, indeed all the participants.
They were all involved in a horrible series of events….this could have ruined the President of the United States and his brother, the Attorney General’s careers and marriages.
The scandal would have been enormous. Something had to be done and so it was.
But there were so many holes in the hastily concocted cover up and the years keep peeling the layers away one by one. Unfortunately, many of the players are no longer here to answer for their crimes.
Some have paid dearly. Both Kennedy’s were assassinated.
To those of us who wish the questions could be answered once and for all hold little hope now.
As I said earlier, Pat Newcomb is the one who is still answerable.
Patricia Newcomb, Marilyn’s press aide in 1962, is one of the few people still alive who knows what dramas occurred at Marilyn’s house the night of August 4th and the early hours of August 5th 1962.
She should have been subpoenaed years ago to tell the truth about what really happened because she was present at the house that night, but she has repeatedly refused to talk about the events due to misguided loyalties to Robert Kennedy. Ironically she later worked for Bobby Kennedy, just after taking a trip around the world…..payoff for silence???
During the 1980’s I was in touch with the Los Angeles DA…he himself stated that the inquiry into Marilyn’s death would not go ahead due to undue pressure by a prominent political family.
When you watch Marilyn on film, particularly her later films….no one before or since has that luminescence, that ‘glow’ on camera. When she is in a scene, your eyes are on her, no one else..she absolutely captivates you with her charm, her smile, she’s funny and sad all at the same time.
Billy Wilder, director of Some Like it Hot, said it all….
“Working with Marilyn can be a nightmare, she’s late, has poor concentration etc…but when the movie is finished and you watch it….you see what you have captured of her on the screen….it’s all worth it!”
(not verbatim)
I absolutely believe she did not commit suicide.
She was murdered…either at the Kennedy’s request by the CIA/FBI.
Probably the best biography about Marilyn is Anthony Summers’ “Goddess”.
She was a Goddess…always will be.
